Detroit Lions sign No. 3 overall pick Jeff Okudah to rookie contract

The Detroit Lions and former Ohio State star Jeff Okudah, the third overall pick of the 2020 NFL Draft have come to terms on his rookie contract.

Per Ian Rapoport of NFL Media, it’s a standard rookie deal with a fifth-year option.

There are some big shoes to fill in Detroit. Okudah effectively is replacing star cornerback Darius Slay, who is among the best in the NFL at the position. The Lions traded Slay to Philadelphia this past offseason.

Jeff Okudah put up tremendous stats last year at Ohio State

The good news for the Lions is that Okudah comes into the NFL with a sparkling resume.

He had an incredible 2019 campaign at Ohio State, putting up rock-solid stats: Logging three interceptions, breaking up nine other passes, forcing one fumble while tallying 28 solo tackles.

He was also absolutely smothering in coverage.

Needless to say, there are some high expectations resting on this young man’s shoulders entering his rookie campaign.

How much is Jeff Okudah’s rookie contract worth?

According to Forbes, Okudah is going to rake in a significant amount of money on his rookie contract.

As the third overall selection of the 2020 NFL Draft, his four-year rookie deal is worth $33.5 million, which includes a whopping $21.9 million signing bonus.
