Detroit Lions QB Jared Goff active, expected to start

Detroit Lions quarterback Jared Goff is officially active for Thursday’s game and is expected to start against the Chicago Bears.

Goff had been listed as questionable all week with the oblique injury that caused him to miss last week’s game. Tim Boyle, who earned the start in the loss to Cleveland, will back up Goff on Thursday. Third quarterback David Blough is among the inactives.

For the Bears, wide receiver Allen Robinson (hamstring) is officially inactive and will miss his second consecutive game. He had been listed as doubtful.

Goff is in the midst of a dreadful season, having thrown just eight touchdowns against six interceptions in his first season with the Lions (0-8-1). Detroit lost the season’s first meeting with the Bears after turning the ball over four times in Chicago’s red zone. But Goff had his best game of the season, throwing for 299 yards with two TDs and no INTs.

The Lions already had ruled out right guard Halapoulivaati Vaitai (concussion), outside linebacker Trey Flowers (knee), tackle Matt Nelson (ankle) and wide receiver Trinity Benson (knee). They are officially inactive.

The Bears (3-7) already had ruled out QB Justin Fields (ribs), DT Akiem Hicks (ankle) and RB Damien Williams (calf). Joining them on the inactive list Thursday are DE Mario Edwards Jr., safety Teez Tabor and tight end Jesper Horsted.
