Detroit Lions put Ifeatu Melifonwu (quad) on IR

The Detroit Lions put rookie defensive back Ifeatu Melifonwu on short-term injured reserve Wednesday with a quadriceps injury.

Melifonwu, who started Detroit’s Week 2 game in place of the injured Jeff Okudah, will have to miss at least three games.

Melifonwu was injured in the third quarter of Monday night’s loss to Green Bay. Melifonwu was in coverage on Packers wide receiver Davante Adams and pulled up at the end of a 50-yard completion.

Lions coach Dan Campbell on Tuesday called Melifonwu’s injury “bad,” adding he’ll be out a “significant amount of time.”

The Lions signed cornerback Daryl Worley off their practice squad Wednesday.

Okudah tore his Achilles in Week 1 and is out for the season.

The Lions selected Melifonwu in the third round of the 2021 draft.
