With zero Super Bowl appearances in franchise history, the Detroit Lions aren’t used to this type of success. This is a team that hadn’t won a playoff game since 1991 until Dan Campbell and Jared Goff led the inspiring win over the Los Angeles Rams in the Wild Card matchup last weekend.
But now the Lions are in the Divisional Round, set to take on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for another home game at Ford Field in front of a crowd that can’t wait to restore the roar again. For the first time in decades, the Lions feel like a team that could go all the way, and it’s led to an enormous spike in ticket prices.
Not only are the Lions back in the playoffs, they’re seen as favorites. Big favorites.
Detroit Lions enter Bucs matchup as biggest playoff favorites in team history
As of this posting, the Detroit Lions are favored by 6.5 points to defeat the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday. According to ESPN, this makes the Lions the largest playoff betting favorites in franchise history.
If the line holds, it will surpass the 1970 Lions, who were viewed as four-point favorites to defeat the Dallas Cowboys. That team lost to the Cowboys by a score of 5-0. No matter what happens on Sunday, it seems impossible for that outcome to come true again, or at least the score.
This also marks the first time the Lions have ever hosted two playoff games in a single season, and if they win, it will be the first time since 1957 that Detroit has won two postseason matchups in the same year.
While many just hope the Lions get the job done and emerge victorious, plenty of others involved in betting markets will be paying closer attention to the final score.
