Derek Carr won’t discuss in-season extension with Las Vegas Raiders

Just as many other players choose to do, Las Vegas Raiders quarterback Derek Carr is not interested in getting into contract extension talks during the season. Carr, who’s under contract through the 2022 season, is in the midst of a career year. His play has even led to Carr being in the early MVP conversation with the Raiders off to a 3-1 start.

However, the Raiders are also working with roughly just $4 million in cap space. If they want to make in-season improvements or to chase a big fish that may be available before the November 2 NFL trade deadline, creating some extra space could be crucial. A Carr extension could help accomplish just that.

From Carr’s perspective, it makes some sense to keep his focus on the successful season he and the Raiders are currently enjoying. If Carr can lead his team to the playoffs, continuing to have impressive performances along the way, the three-time Pro Bowl QB can earn himself a much bigger payday.

With that said, Carr also has no intention of ever playing anywhere else. Carr wants to be a Raider for life. Which is exactly what you want to hear from your franchise quarterback.
