Maybe Oakland Raiders quarterback Derek Carr knows something we don’t. It could also be that he grew up a fan of the Black Mamba himself.

In speaking with local reporters on Wednesday, the third-year quarterback compared his mentality to that of Kobe Bryant.

No, seriously.

“In my head, I am a big Kobe (Bryant) fan. So, that Mamba mentality,” Carr said, via CSN Bay Area. “You got to go out there, and you got to do it. I’ve watched him, and I’ve studied him forever. And that’s always been my mindset when I get into those situations.”

Carr was specifically talking about two-minute situations at the end of games. How his mentality changes and exactly what type of inspiration he drew from Kobe at a younger age.

If Carr ends up being anything like Bryant when it comes to performing with the game on the line, the Raiders will definitely have a great one under center.

This came out in droves in the Raiders’ season-opening comeback win against the New Orleans Saints. Carr led Oakland on three fourth quarter touchdown-scoring drives to pull off the road win.

At the very least, we now know the Raiders have a pretty confident young man under center.
