DeMarco Murray Named AP Offensive Player of the Year

In the first real surprise of the night, Dallas Cowboys running back DeMarco Murray has won the NFL Offensive Player of the Year award, which was presented by the Associated Press during the league’s Honors ceremony in Glendale, Arizona.

Some figured that Aaron Rodgers or Le’Veon Bell might earn this award, but Murray’s 2014 performance was nothing less than extraordinary.

He led the NFL in rush attempts (392), rushing yards (1,845), rushing touchdowns (13) and total yards from scrimmage (2,261).

Taking into account the postseason, the soon-to-be free agent tallied nearly 500 total touches in 18 games. It might have helped that Dallas boasted the best run-blocking offensive line in the NFL, but Murray’s collection of ridiculous statistics overwhelmed those competing for this award.

He is the first Dallas Cowboys player to win this award since the Associated Press started handing it out in 1972.
