DeAndre Hopkins touts ‘natural leader’ Brock Osweiler

Houston Texans quarterback Brock Osweiler has a fan in his new No. 1 receiver, DeAndre Hopkins.

Per Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk, the All-Pro receiver spoke highly of the leadership ability shown by Houston’s new quarterback.

“He operates like a pro’s pro,” Hopkins said regarding Brock Osweiler. “He comes out and he demands the best out of everybody, offensive line, fullbacks, even the guys that aren’t even in the huddle. He’s a natural leader.”

This is certainly good news for Texans fans.

Osweiler is a largely unproven quarterback, but also has immense talent. Hopkins put up fantastic numbers in 2015 with quarterbacks like Brian Hoyer, Ryan Mallett, and Brandon Weeden throwing him the ball. If he’s already touting Osweiler, it means an even better season may be on the horizon in 2016.

Perhaps we shouldn’t be surprised, though, based on the years Osweiler spent behind Peyton Manning. He spoke highly of his experiences with the legendary passer and appears to have learned good habits in the process.

The news is even better for the fans in Houston. Florio also quoted Osweiler, who spoke highly of his new coach, Bill O’Brien. Specifically, the quarterback likes playing for a coach that will not let him get away with mistakes.

“He kept us on task and he expects a lot out of us which as a player you love. Sometimes he’s going to get on you, which he should. I had a couple turnovers today. I’m going to [chalk] those up as learning experiences. I’m going to make sure they don’t happen again, but I want him to be on me. I don’t want that to be acceptable. It’s a lot of fun being out there with Coach O’Brien. He’s a phenomenal football coach. He’s very smart and he’s a lot of fun to be around.”

Of course, whether this harmony will translate to on field success is yet to be determined.

But for now, a quarterback being on the same page with his top receiver and new coach is a wonderful thing.
