Dave Roberts: Clayton Kershaw scheduled to start on Thursday

Injured Los Angeles Dodgers ace Clayton Kershaw was expected to return to the rotation soon. Now, we have a target date. According to manager Dave Roberts, Kershaw is expected to start on Thursday against the Philadelphia Phillies.

Kershaw hasn’t pitched in a game since May 1. Since then, he’s been on the disabled list with biceps tendinitis. Expect the Dodgers to be relatively cautious with him. This marked the third season in a row (and fourth in five years) that included a DL trip for Kershaw. So, it’s unlikely they’ll rush him back into action or force him to do too much upon his return.

Prior to his injury, Kershaw had a 2.86 ERA and 1.14 WHIP. Los Angeles can certainly use its ace. While the Dodgers enter Sunday only 3.5 games out in the National League West, they’ve largely struggled on the season and sit at 23-28.
