Dallas Keuchel jokes about his free agent status

For the second year in a row, MLB’s free agency has moved slowly. One of the free agents, pitcher Dallas Keuchel, joked about that on Thursday.

It all started when someone called for the New York Yankees to sign Keuchel — citing his career accomplishments.

Keuchel responded, joking that what he’s done “doesn’t mean anything anymore.”

In truth, Keuchel has something of a legitimate gripe. He’s not quite the pitcher that he was when he won the Cy Young Award in 2015. But Keuchel would be, at worst, a good No. 3 starting pitcher for essentially any contender. In the case of some contenders and many striving to get there, he’d be a No. 1.

But other top free agents, like Bryce Harper, Manny Machado and Craig Kimbrel (just to name a few) all remain unsigned, as well. So, if nothing else, Keuchel is keeping good company.
