D.C. United acquired American defender Brendan Hines-Ike on a one-year loan from Belgium’s K.V. Kortrijk, the MLS club announced Monday.

The 26-year-old center back from Denver played collegiately at Creighton and South Florida before launching his professional career overseas.

“Brendan joins the club after making over 100 professional appearances in Europe with Orebro SK in Sweden and K.V. Kortrijk in Belgium,” D.C. United general manager Dave Kasper said in a news release. “His defensive instincts and technical ability have been on display since he first became a professional in 2016 and we’re excited to add his experience and skillset to our backline as we continue to build our roster.”

Hines-Ike tallied four goals and three assists in 70 appearances with Orebro SK in the Swedish first division from 2016-18. He joined K.V. Kortrijk in Belgium’s top flight in July 2018 and contributed one goal and three assists in 51 appearances.
