Best known for a DUI incident back in 2012 that killed teammate Jerry Brown, Dallas Cowboys defensive tackle Josh Brent has announced his retirement from the NFL.
Brent, 27, was found guilty of intoxication manslaughter in January of 2014, and sentenced to 180 days in jail as well as 10 years probation. He missed the end of the 2012 campaign and all of the 2013 season.
This is the second time that Brent has announced his retirement from the NFL. The first time came back in July of 2013 in order to focus on his off-field situation.
Brent was a fifth-round pick of the Cowboys back in 2010, and started five games in three seasons with the team. After showing remorse for the DUI that killed his best friend, and following Brown’s family pushing for Brent to return to the game, he decided to give it a go for the 2014 season.
