The Colorado Avalanche on Wednesday agreed to a three-year entry level deal with 2019 first-round draft pick Alex Newhook.

Newhook, 20, was at Boston College the past two years and just completed his sophomore season with the Eagles, scoring seven goals with nine assists in 12 games. He missed the first half of Boston College’s season after participating in the 2021 IIHF World Junior Championship in Edmonton and then going into required COVID-19 quarantine after he returned.

Newhook, who will report to the Colorado Eagles of the AHL, was the NCAA Division I rookie of the year at Boston College as a freshman when he had 19 goals with 23 assists.

The No. 16 overall selection in 2019 also played in the British Columbia Hockey League where he had 60 goals and 108 assists in 98 games from 2017-19.
