A new rumor claims Penn State wrestling is among the favorites to land super prospect Bo Bassett after his stunning decommitment from Iowa.

In February, the Hawkeyes won the recruiting chase for one of the most highly-touted high school wrestlers of the decade, Bo Bassett. Iowa has long had a top program. But his addition seemed to set them up to dethrone defending champs Penn State wrestling as the top school in the nation in the years to come.

Then a bombshell dropped this week. The Bishop McCort product decided to decommit from the program just months ahead of his collegiate debut. Now, the No. 1 wrestling prospect in the nation is back on the open market. And there are reportedly already three schools favored to land him for their class of 2026.

“There’s a final three for Bo. How much conversation has been happening in the background? I don’t know how much. There has been communication between the Bassett camp and these other schools prior to his decommitment,” Flo Wrestling reports.

“Penn State, kind of obvious. Oklahoma State, pretty obvious. And Nebraska. Those are the three. And that’s who is ultimately going to be in the mix for Bo Bassett.”

There are surely many who will be rooting against Penn State wrestling to land another elite recruit as they aim for a fifth straight national championship in 2026. Nittany Lions David Taylor has helped bring Oklahoma State back to elite status after winning the Big 12 and finishing third at the national championships earlier this year. They have landed several big recruits in 2025.

Nebraska was the runner-up to Penn State this year. Landing Bassett puts them in a great position to potentially knock the Nittany Lions off next season. Furthermore, it would be a huge blow to Iowa if their top rival lured away the gifted prospect.
