After the Central Florida Knights escaped with a dangerous hit on LSU Tigers quarterback Joe Burrow earlier in the game, they were not so lucky the second time. Senior Kyle Gibson was ejected in the second quarter for a late targeting hit on Burrow.

The Tigers sat just inside UCF’s 40-yard line when Burrow threw the football away then drew a vicious hit to the head from Burrow. After reviewing the hit, officials ejected Gibson from the game.

Just two plays after the hit, Burrow hit Justin Jefferson for a 33-yard touchdown to help give LSU a two-score lead over UCF.

Gibson is the third player to be ejected from the Fiesta Bowl. LSU cornerback Terrence Alexander was ejected late in the first quarter for throwing a punch. Tigers defensive back Grant Delpit was ejected for another targeting call on the drive after Gibson’s hit.
