Georgia linebacker signee E.J. Lightsey is in stable condition after being shot multiple times, according to police in his hometown of Fitzgerald, Ga.

Police chief William Smallwood Jr. told ESPN that Lightsey had been taken to a hospital by acquaintances by the time authorities responded to reports of a shooting at a park on Monday at about 6:30 p.m.

Lightsey was shot in the shoulder and back and is expected to recover, according to Smallwood.

Relatives said he was alert and “doing pretty good” as of Tuesday morning, per ESPN.

Lightsey told police he was working out in the park when he was shot. No arrests have been made.

The 6-foot-2, 210-pound Lightsey is a member of the defending national champion Bulldogs’ 2022 signing class. He helped Fitzgerald High School win a Georgia Class 2A state title last season and was ranked as a three-star prospect by 247 Sports.
