Brian Kelly

We probably should have seen this coming, but, yet, we didn’t. Remember the viral Brian Kelly dance video from last week, when he was uncomfortably standing behind tight end recruit Danny Lewis? Well, today is National Signing Day, and Lewis just committed to Alabama instead of LSU.

According to Bruce Feldman, despite eight million views of him getting hyped up in an LSU Tigers uniform, Lewis will be playing for the Crimson Tide instead. 247sports has Lewis ranked as the 40th ranked player at his position according to their rankings and is graded as a three-star tight end.

Making matters worse is that Lewis is a Louisiana native, currently attending New Iberia Westgate. A week ago, it may have seemed like Lewis was a lock to stay in-state and land with the Tigers, but obviously the temptation to play for Nick Saban at Alabama was too much to overcome. The Florida Gators were also among the finalists for the tight end prospect.

Lewis visited all three campuses in the past week, while we saw the visit at LSU, clearly he has other priorities placed ahead of whatever it was that we saw from Brian Kelly.

Brian Kelly is off to a weird start at LSU

While the games have yet to begin, Brian Kelly’s start off the field has been unique, to say the least. While some coaches prefer to stay out of the limelight, Kelly seems to keep landing right in the center of attention since he broke up with Notre Dame. Even the departure was ugly.

First, it was the southern accent he attempted in an effort to fit in with the locals, now this. LSU signed Kelly to a 10-year deal at the end of November. I wonder if they have any regrets? In all fairness, we’ll see how the games go in 2022. We might forget all the charades that happened in between as long as they can win more than six games as they did a season ago.
