Cleveland Browns officially release Odell Beckham Jr.

NFL: Chicago Bears at Cleveland Browns

At long last, the drama in Cleveland is over. The Cleveland Browns have announced they released Odell Beckham Jr. Beckham will now be subject to waivers, where any team can claim the remainder of his contract.

The Browns and Beckham’s camp were believed to be working on altering his contract to reduce his salary after the star receiver requested a trade. It’s now presumed they were able to come to an agreement of sorts. The question for the other 31 teams now is how much salary is left to pay on OBJ’s contract?

His salary amount will ultimately help determine if a team chooses to place a claim on Beckham through the waiver process. Teams have until Monday to place their claims and the waiver order goes in reverse of each individual team’s place in the standings.

For Baker Mayfield and the Browns, they’re likely just happy to be done with the drama that Beckham has brought as they look to get above .500.
