Cincinnati Reds activate Mike Moustakas from IL

The Cincinnati Reds activated third baseman Mike Moustakas from the injured list Friday and inserted him into the starting lineup, batting fifth against the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Utility man Mike Freeman was optioned back to Triple-A Louisville, while right-hander Michael Feliz was transferred to the 60-day IL.

Moustakas has played just 28 games this season and has been out since May 18 with a right heel injury. The 32-year-old was batting .241 with four home runs and 13 RBIs and is a career .251 hitter with 194 home runs and 601 RBIs over 1,203 games with the Kansas City Royals, Milwaukee Brewers and Reds.

Freeman, 34, was batting .186 with three RBIs in 37 games this season. He is a career .225 hitter with five home runs and 32 RBIs in 193 career games over six seasons with six different teams.

Feliz, 28, has been out since June 8 with a right elbow sprain. He had a 16.20 ERA in nine appearances this season and is 17-9 with a 5.38 ERA in 222 appearances over seven seasons with the Astros, Pirates and Reds.
