The Chicago White Sox outrighted right-handed relievers Jimmy Cordero and Evan Marshall, left-handed relief pitcher Jace Fry and outfielder Brian Goodwin to Triple-A Charlotte on Friday, making each of them free agents.
The team also purchased the contract of left-handed reliever Anderson Severino from Charlotte.
With the moves, the club’s 40-man roster dropped to 34 players.
Cordero, 30, underwent Tommy John surgery in March and missed the 2021 season.
He posted a 1-2 record and 6.08 ERA in 30 games in 2020, giving up 18 earned runs in 26 2/3 innings. In 2019, he was 1-0 with a 2.75 ERA in 30 games.
Marshall, 31, had a sharp dropoff in 2021.
With the White Sox from 2019-20, Mashall has a combined record of 6-3 and a sub-2.50 ERA each season. But in 2021, his ERA ballooned to 5.60 as he went 0-2. In 27 1/3 innings, he surrendered five home runs and 17 earned runs.
Fry, 28, spent parts of five seasons with the White Sox. He played the bulk of the 2021 season in Charlotte, where he finished 1-4 with a 2.92 ERA, but with the big club, he was 0-1 and had a 10.80 ERA in six appearances. He gave up eight earned runs in 6 2/3 innings.
The White Sox, who had a rash of injuries among outfielders last season, signed Goodwin to a free-agent deal on May 5, two days after his release from the Pittsburgh Pirates. In 72 games in Chicago, he hit .221 with eight homers, 29 RBIs and 33 runs scored.
Severino, 27, is a career minor leaguer. Between Charlotte and Double-A Birmingham last season, he appeared in 40 games, compiling a 1-3 record and a 2.36 ERA. He gave up 12 earned runs in 45 2/3 innings.
