Chicago Fire midfielder Stanislav Ivanov will be sidelined at least four months following surgery to repair a torn meniscus in his knee, the team said Tuesday.
The Fire acquired the 21-year-old Bulgarian in December on a transfer from Levski Sofia, signing him through the 2023 season with a club option for 2024.
Chicago was expected to place Ivanov on injured reserve, requiring him to miss a minimum of six MLS games. His timetable targets a return in late July.
He made 85 appearances with Bulgaria’s Levski Sofia, tallying 13 goals and 15 assists.
The Fire open the MLS regular season at home on April 17 against the New England Revolution.
