Chicago Cubs DFA Eric Sogard, activate Matt Duffy from IL

The Chicago Cubs swapped a pair of veteran infielders on their roster, activating Matt Duffy from the 60-day injured list while designating Eric Sogard for assignment.

Sogard, 35, was batting .249 with one home run and 12 RBIs in 78 games this season after joining the Cubs on a minor-league deal.

Duffy, 30, has not played since May 22 because of a back injury. He was batting .278 with one home run and 12 RBIs over 38 games in his first season with the Cubs.

Sogard is a career .246 hitter with 26 home runs and 187 RBIs over 815 games in 11 seasons for the Oakland Athletics, Milwaukee Brewers, Toronto Blue Jays, Tampa Bay Rays and Cubs.

Duffy is a career .282 hitter over 490 games in six seasons with the San Francisco Giants, Rays and Cubs.
