Star linebacker Khalil Mack hasn't played for the Chicago Bears since Week 7 as he attempts to recover from a foot injury originally suffered in Week 3. Unfortunately the waiting game has not gone well. On Friday the Bears placed their powerful pass-rusher on injured reserve, with plans for Mack to undergo season-ending foot surgery.

While he's already been out of the lineup for a few weeks, it's a big loss for a Bears defense that's allowed 62 points the past two games without him.

Mack will finish his 2021 season playing just seven games, tallying 19 tackles with six sacks. In his eight-year career, the six-time Pro Bowl rusher has compiled 76.5 sacks, which is tied for 82nd all-time on the NFL's official all-time sack leaders list. Among active leaders on an NFL roster, Mack ranks 13th in career sacks.

While he won't be able to climb up the list any further until next season, he is under contract with the Bears through 2024. The Bears take on the Baltimore Ravens (6-3) on Sunday.
