Chase Young signs rookie contract with Washington

Washington edge rusher Chase Young

Chase Young, the No. 2 overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, signed his rookie contract on Thursday. Now, with training camp beginning soon, the former Ohio State Buckeyes star is ready to start his NFL career with Washington.

Chase Young contract details

Young became the latest rookie, in a wave of moves, to sign his rookie contract this week. According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the deal is worth $34.56 million and provides the outstanding edge rusher with a $22.697 million signing bonus.

As part of the NFL’s new collective bargaining agreement, the value of the fifth-year option on Young’s rookie contract will be determined by his level of performance in his first three seasons. Given the record-breaking extension Myles Garrett just landed, it might only be a few years before Young becomes the NFL’s next $100 million man.

After recording 40.5 tackles for loss and 30.5 sacks in 34 career games at Ohio State, Young seems destined for greatness at the next level. With defensive-minded head coach Ron Rivera helping him and Washington’s strong defensive line, Young could make a Nick Bosa-like impact in his rookie season.
