The Los Angeles Chargers saw one of their best players go down during practice on Tuesday. All-Pro cornerback Casey Hayward suffered an apparent hamstring injury.

The good news for the Chargers is that, at least at first, it seemed as though Hayward avoided a serious injury.

If that holds, it would be a rare bit of good news for a secondary that’s otherwise had horrible luck in training camp and the preseason.
Pro Bowl cornerback Jason Verrett has been placed in injured reserved. Safety Jaylen Watkins tore his ACL. Another corner, Trevor Williams, has also suffered an injury.
The last thing that this secondary needs is another injury, especially to a player of Hayward’s caliber.
Hayward made the Pro Bowl and was named Second-team All-Pro in both 2016 and 2017. He intercepted seven passes in 2016, four more in 2017, and has 20 picks through his career.
