Report: Carson Wentz to start Week 1 if ribs are healed, Chase Daniel ‘not happy’

Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz

After trading away Sam Bradford to the Minnesota Vikings, the Philadelphia Eagles are looking to start rookie Carson Wentz in Week 1. This is dependent on whether or not Wentz’s injured ribs are healthy, per Adam Caplan of ESPN.

This is truly a stunning turn of events.

The Eagles have maintained the stance since before training camp that Wentz would likely not even suit up in any games this year. He was slated to learn in 2016 while Bradford and Chase Daniel ran the offense.

Now, suddenly, after not even playing in the final three preseason games, the rookie will be thrown to the wolves in Week 1 if he’s healthy.

Not surprisingly, Daniel is not happy about the development.

Wentz is nowhere near ready to lead a winning offense.

He proved as much in his one and only preseason outing. Yes, his signature athleticism and rocket arm were on display. But also on display was a wildly inaccurate arm that stems from shaky mechanics. He finished the game with 89 yards on 12-of-24 passing with no touchdowns and one interception.

So, have the Eagles already mailed in the 2016 season? That’s our take on the matter (more on that here).

What we do know for certain is that Wentz is going to be extremely rough at times with some brilliant moments interspersed in between. It’s going to be a bumpy ride, Eagles fans. Buckle up.
