Cam Newton in walking boot after missing practice

It certainly looks like Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton will not be on the field when his team takes on the Arizona Cardinals this coming Sunday.

Newton missed practice on Tuesday after he aggravated a preseason foot injury in last Thursday night’s loss to the Buccaneers. The team currently does not have a solid timeline for Newton’s return to action.

If what we heard from teammate Eric Reid on Tuesday is any indication, Newton could be looking at a multi-week absence. Reid noted that Newton was seen around the facility wearing a walking boot.

That’s normally not a good sign for the viability of a short-term recovery. Remember, Newton suffered the foot injury in his preseason debut after missing the Panthers’ entire off-season program due to a separate shoulder injury.

It’s not yet known whether there’s structural damage. Newton will likely get more tests here soon.

For now, the winless Panthers have to be preparing for Kyle Allen to be starting over the short term.
