Calgary Flames center Sean Monahan needs hip surgery and will miss the last four games of the season, the team announced Wednesday.

Monahan will have the procedure next week and is expected to be ready for full participation in time for training camp ahead of the 2021-22 season.

Monahan, 26, tallied 28 points (10 goals, 18 assists) in 50 games this season.

The Flames did not specify when the injury occurred. He skated in their most recent game, a 6-1 win Sunday against the Ottawa Senators, registering two shots on goal over 21 shifts and 13:16 of ice time.

Drafted in the first round (sixth overall) by Calgary in 2013, he has 439 points (204 goals, 235 assists) in 591 games with the Flames.

The Flames (23-26-3, 49 points) have been eliminated from playoff contention. Their last four games are all against the Vancouver Canucks, starting Thursday night in Calgary.
