A North Carolina-based house owned by Tennessee Titans cornerback Caleb Farley was leveled in an overnight explosion in the town of Mooresville.
According to a local NBC News affiliate in the area, Farley’s father died in the explosion with another individual injured.
“Authorities confirmed with Nexstar’s WJZY that the person who was killed has been identified as Robert Matthews Farley, 61, who was staying in the home at the time of the incident,” the report read.
A first-round pick of the Titans back in 2021, Farley was seen at the site of the explosion on Tuesday speaking with authorities. Neighbors told reporters on the scene that they heard a loud explosion and smelled gas. There is currently no evidence of foul play.
As information came trickling in, Farley’s Titans teammates responded to the tragedy.
“I just found out the news. Prayers to his family. I send my condolences to his family. We all send our condolences. It’s a tragic situation,” Titans star Derrick Henry on the Caleb Farley situation.
Farley’s father was said to be living in the $2 million home for less than a year before the explosion.
As for the young cornerback, he’s played in 12 games over two seasons due to a plethora of injuries. It’s not yet known when he’ll return to the Titans. But that shouldn’t necessarily be the focus right now.
