Bryce Harper admits Wednesday could be final home game with Nationals

The Washington Nationals still have another series to finish, but Bryce Harper might’ve played his final home game for the organization Wednesday.

Prior to the finale against the Miami Marlins at Nationals Park, the right fielder acknowledged he was cherishing the moment because of the uncertainty the future holds, per ESPN’s Eddie Matz.

“It’s definitely crazy walking in today and knowing this could be my last game at Nats Park in my white jersey.”

Harper, the No. 1 overall pick of the 2010 MLB draft, has spent his entire career with the Nationals. He made his Major League debut for Washington in April 2012, receiving an All-Star nod as well as NL Rookie of the Year.

Since then, the outfielder has made All-Star teams five times and earned National League MVP in 2015. That season, he posted career-high marks across the board with a .330 batting average, 42 home runs and 99 runs batted in.

Oh, and he was only 22.

Harper battled a major slump earlier in the 2018 campaign, but he’s still smacked 30 homers and driven in 100 runs. That midseason rebound has solidified his value as a potential $300 million signing in free agency.

The 25-year-old is headed for that massive payday this winter, and Harper is prepared for the contract to not come from Washington.
