The Brooklyn Nets will resume their season at Orlando on July 30. They will do so holding down the seventh seed in the Eastern Conference and with multiple players having opted out of resuming the NBA season.

There’s now some decent news on this front for Brooklyn. The team has signed a veteran who can light up the scoreboard in a big way.

Nets sign veteran guard Jamal Crawford

Crawford, 40, last suited up as a member of the Phoenix Suns during the 2018-19 season. The three-time Sixth Man of the Year winner averaged 7.9 points and 3.6 rebounds on 33% shooting from three-point range. That came after a 2017-18 campaign with the Minnesota Timberwolves that saw Crawford average north of 10 points per game.

In the NBA since 2000-01, Crawford has made a career out of being a top-scoring bench option. His best season came back in 2007-08 with the Knicks when the guard averaged 20.6 points on 36% shooting from distance.

Multiple Nets players test positive for COVID-19, forced from NBA’s restart

DeAndre Jordan, Spencer Dinwiddie and Taurean Prince all tested positive for the virus and will not return to action. Meanwhile, veteran Wilson Chandler has decided to opt out of the NBA season due to health concerns relating to his family. That’s north of 40 points per game right there.

The Nets head into Orlando with a 30-34 record on the season. They are 5.5 games up on the Washington Wizards for the eighth spot. Brooklyn will more than likely earn a playoff spot. What happens after that is anyone’s guess.
