Brewers acquire OF Christian Yelich from Marlins

Christian Yelich

The Milwaukee Brewers have made a huge trade that could very well help them compete with the Chicago Cubs in the National League Central this upcoming season.

The team announced that it has acquired young outfielder Christian Yelich from the Miami Marlins in exchange for four prospects, Lewis Brinson included.

After moving on from Dee Gordon, Giancarlo Stanton and Marcell Ozuna earlier in the winter, it became readily apparent that the Marlins were looking to trade Yelich. That was taken to a whole new level when he expressed dissatisfaction over the direction of the organization.

Yelich, 26, hit .282 with 18 homers, 81 RBI and a .369 OBP for the Marlins last season.

For its part, Miami received a whole heck of a lot in return for Yelich. That bounty includes former Texas Rangers first-round pick Lewis Brinson, who graded out as the Brewers’ top prospect this past season.

Also heading to Miami in the deal is pitcher Jordan Yamamoto as well as position players Isan Diaz and Monte Harrison. Diaz came in No. 6 among Brewers prospects while Harrison found himself in the top 15.
