Breaking: Thaddeus Young Out for Nets Game Against Cleveland on Friday

The Brooklyn Nets will be without the services of forward Thaddeus Young for at least one game, the team announced Thursday. Young suffered a knee injury in the third quarter of the Nets victory in Charlotte on Wednesday.

Young has averaged 13.6 points and 5.1 rebounds per game since being dealt to Brooklyn by Minnesota on deadline day. After initially coming off the bench, Young has started the last 10 games for the Nets.

It’s possible the Nets caught a break with the timing of Young’s injury.  Beating Cleveland was going to be a challenge even with Young, and if they are serious about a playoff push, the Nets should expect to be able to beat the Lakers at less than full strength. It is unknown if Young will be ready to return to action next Tuesday for a key game against the Indiana Pacers.

Second-year center Mason Plumlee and rookie forward Cory Jefferson will likely receive the bulk of Young’s minutes while he recovers.
