The Washington Football team is on the verge of signing veteran safety Bobby McCain to a one-year deal, his agent Drew Rosenhaus told multiple outlets.

McCain was released by the Miami Dolphins on May 6 and visited Washington on Monday.

Washington was in the market for safety help as Landon Collins (Achilles) is projected to miss the start of the campaign. Collins was injured in late October of the 2020 season.

McCain, 27, played in all 16 games (15 starts) for the Dolphins in 2020 and posted 46 tackles, five passes defensed and one interception.

A fifth-round draft pick in 2015, McCain registered 254 tackles, seven interceptions and four sacks in 87 games (55 starts) with Miami.

The Dolphins clear $5.66 million in cap space by releasing McCain, per reports.
