Baylor wide receiver seen beating dog in video

The Baylor football program has gone through some major off-field issues over the past couple years. These issues ended up costing head coach Art Briles his job.

Now, with the program attempting to put these issues behind them, a shocking story has emerged from Waco that should concern everyone with a heart.

A video obtained by News 25 in the Waco area shows Baylor wide receiver Ishmael Zamora beating his black Rottweiler with a belt before stomping on the helpless dog. Due to the graphic nature of the video, we will simply link you to it here.

In response to the horrifying incident, Zamora had this to say.

“I lost my temper trying to discipline him,” Zamora said. “I’ve been through training with a dog trainer to help me learn new potty training tips.”

If that’s the excuse the receiver is going to use for this incident, he’s not going to find many friends supporting him. It’s a grotesque overreaction to something that all dog owners have to deal with.

That is to say, if you can’t handle the training that comes with owning a dog, don’t put the dog into a situation where he/she is going to feel the wrath of your frustration.

The video itself was initially posted to Snapchat by one of Zamora’s teammates, at which point another Baylor student went to authorities with the evidence.

“I went to authorities probably about two hours after I saw the video,” Shelby Ball said. “Dogs can’t speak for themselves. I felt like something needed to be done.”

Zamora was eventually charged with a misdemeanor that includes a fine of up to $500.
