Baltimore Orioles slugger Ryan Mountcastle was activated from the 10-day injured list prior to Tuesday’s road game against the Tampa Bay Rays.

Mountcastle has been sidelined with a concussion that occurred during a game against the Rays on Aug. 6.

He was playing first base and batting fourth in Tuesday’s game.

Outfielder Ryan McKenna was optioned to Triple-A Norfolk in a corresponding move.

Mountcastle was thrown out attempting to steal second base in the Aug. 6 game against Tampa Bay. He was tagged in the head in the first inning and he departed the game following the second frame.

The next day, Mountcastle reported concussion symptoms to the team and he was placed on the IL on Aug. 8, retroactive to Aug. 7.

The 24-year-old Mountcastle is batting .264 with 19 homers and 63 RBIs in 101 games. He is splitting time between first base, designated hitter and left field.

Despite the IL stint, Mountcastle entered Tuesday’s game as the team leader in RBIs and just one off the homer lead shared by Trey Mancini and All-Star Cedric Mullins.

McKenna is batting .208 with one homer and six RBIs in 63 games with the Orioles this season.
