Baker Mayfield accuses media of ‘making up a story’ about his Daniel Jones comments

Baker Mayfield has been in headlines across the nation today for comments he made about New York Giants rookie Daniel Jones.

During an interview with GQ magazine, Mayfield said, “I cannot believe the Giants took Daniel Jones. Blows my mind.”

He added that, “Some people overthink it. That’s where people go wrong. They forget you’ve gotta win.”

Mayfield also says he said other stuff in the same interview that wasn’t shared. And after seeing his words splattered across the Internet, he took to his Instagram story to clarify, accusing the media of “making up a story.”

“This is not what I said… just so we’re clear,” Mayfield wrote. “I also said I was surprised I got drafted number one. Then was talking about the flaws in evaluating QB’s. Where I brought up winning being important. Reporters and media will do anything to come up with a click bait story. Heard nothing but good things and wish nothing but the best for Daniel.”

For what it’s worth, the Giants are downplaying the whole thing, with Jones himself staying very classy with his response.
