Arizona Diamondbacks speedster Tim Locastro dislocated his left pinkie finger while being thrown out trying to steal during Saturday’s 6-2 road loss against the Washington Nationals.
The injury occurred in the third inning when Locastro slid head-first into second base and appeared to jam the finger into the bag.
Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo said Locastro will likely be placed on the 10-day injured list. Locastro also needed four stitches to close a wound.

“I looked down at first and saw that (my pinkie) was not facing the right way,” Locastro said. “And then I looked down again and got a little worried when I saw some blood.”
It was the first time Locastro has been caught stealing his career. He had stolen 29 straight, a major league record to start a career.
“I got the jump I wanted,” Locastro said. “(Nationals catcher Yan Gomes) had a good pitch to throw on and a nice tag by (Starlin) Castro. It is what it is. It was a good run. Hopefully now I go for 30 the next run I have here. So that’s the goal.”
Hall of Famer Tim Raines (28 from 1979-81) held the former mark.

Locastro singled in the third inning prior to the caught stealing to raise his hitting streak to nine games. He is batting .269 with one homer, two RBIs and three steals in 15 games this season.
