The Arizona Cardinals have signed first-round pick Isaiah Simmons to his rookie contract, officially welcoming the star defender to the NFL before training camp begins.
Isaiah Simmons signs rookie contract with Arizona Cardinals
Simmons, the No. 8 overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, will now be cleared for training camp with his new team. When he finally hits the practice field for the first time with the Cardinals, he’ll already be enjoying the rewards of being an NFL player.
Under the NFL’s rookie wage scale, Simmons will receive a four-year contract worth $20.66 million guaranteed. The best part for the 21-year-old hybrid defender, he gets a $12.58 million signing bonus in the deal.
As part of the NFL’s new collective bargaining agreement, the value of the fifth-year option on Simmons’ rookie contract will be determined by his level of performance in his first three seasons. If he excels and Arizona picks up the option, he will receive an even higher fully guaranteed salary.
Simmons will wear the No. 48 in Arizona for an incredible reason and is expected to play a huge role as a rookie. If the Cardinals surprise this season and become a playoff contender, this hybrid star will be a big reason for it.
