Andre Iguodala on Kevin Durant: ‘It must be fun playing with a guy like that’

It’s a not-so-well-kept secret that the Golden State Warriors would be interested in potentially adding Kevin Durant via free agency this offseason. Players have already said they think he’s going to come to Golden State. After beating Durant’s Oklahoma City Thunder in Game 7 of the Western Conference Finals Monday, Andre Iguodala added a bit of fuel to the fire.

“He made some really tough shots, which is what I expected,” Iguodala said of Durant, via Jimmy Durkin of the East Bay Times. “He’s a fighter and competitor and fought to the end. It must be fun playing with a guy like that.”

Durant will be free agent this summer, and he plays the same position as Iguodala. With that in mind, it’s not surprising that the energetic small forward added, “Unless I’m not playing with him.”

Durkin thinks that Iguodala could potentially become a tradeable piece if the Warriors were to land Durant, who’d be coming in with a max contract. That said, this is a team that has thrived the past couple of years by utilizing a small lineup, and it’s conceivable it would be unstoppable with both Iggy and KD on the floor with Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson and Andrew Bogut.

After years of coming close but not winning the big games, Durant might finally be ready to throw in with a proven winner. And there aren’t any teams hotter these days than the Warriors.

There is going to be no end of speculating what will happen in free agency, and the rumor mill isn’t going to stop. Of course, it’s comments like these by Iguodala that make us think the Warriors’ reported interest in bringing Durant aboard are more than just smoke and mirrors.
