Aaron Rodgers and Packers reportedly made ‘noticeable progress’ on extension

It looks like Aaron Rodgers will soon be the new highest-paid player in NFL history, based on an updated report by Ian Rapoport of NFL Media on Wednesday.

“From what I’m told, as far as the Packers and Aaron Rodgers, there has been some noticeable progress. Some real progress between the two sides. I know they’ve been going back and forth. I know they’ve been talking. And when I was in Green Bay, there certainly was some optimism that this is something the team would be able to get done before the start of the regular season. And things seem to be moving in the right direction — that has ramped up between Aaron Rodgers and the Packers.”

Rapoport also noted that, while Green Bay does do its contracts a bit differently than other teams, Rodgers is expected to get a ton of money up front on this imminent extension.

The Packers and Rodgers have maintained all offseason long that this deal will get done before too long. Now it appears to be closer than ever to becoming reality.

Rodgers certainly has a claim to be the highest-paid quarterback in the NFL. He’s arguably the best pure quarterback in the league right now, and he’s still just 34 years old with plenty of good football left in front of him.

So far in his career, the former first-round pick out of Cal has already won a Super Bowl while putting up jaw-dropping stats on a yearly basis. He’s posted a 94-48 career record while completing 65.1 percent of his passes for 38,502 yards with 313 touchdowns and just 78 interceptions.
