We already know that UFC head Dana White is all about scheduling those absolutely mammoth fights that seem to transcend the MMA world.

The expectation for a while now has been that current lightweight champion and No. 2 pound-for-pound fighter in the world Khabib Nurmagomedov would take on the recently-retired Georges St-Pierre for the belt at some point in the near future.

In discussing this recently, St-Pierre does not seem to think that it’s going to happen.

Georges St-Pierre not sure Georges St-Pierre bout is going to happen

“I run away with the welterweight (title), I run away with the middleweight (title),” St-Pierre told BT Sport. “They surely don’t want me to run with the lightweight (belt).”

Khabib followed up his submission of Conor McGregor during UFC 229 back in October of 2018 with a dominating performance over Dustin Poirier last September. This has him at 28-0 in his career and as one of the most-dominating fighters in modern UFC history.

On the other hand, St-Pierre has not taken to the Octagon since November of 2017 when he defeated Michael Bisping for the middleweight championship. Nurmagomedov previously called out St-Pierre for bailing on a potential title bout after the former defeated Al Iaquinta in UFC 223 back in April of 2018. Health scares ultimately forced St-Pierre into retirement a year ago this past February.

Although, Khabib did recently hint that he’d like to go up against St-Pierre. It’s something Dana White seems more than open to.

For now, the No. 2 pound-for-pound fighter in the world is scheduled to take on Justin Gaethje in a title unification bout this coming October. After that, it’s anyone’s best guess what might happen.
