We have absolutely no idea whether the 2020 college football season will be played this fall. Conferences are doing their best to change the schedule, taking into account the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic plaguing the United States.
However, there’s a growing rift between athletes and administrators leading up to the schedule start of the season. That now includes this bombshell from Fort Collins, Colorado.
Colorado State football players and coaches claim the administration engaging in COVID-19 cover up
“CSU football players and university athletic department staff say coaches have told players not to report COVID-19 symptoms, threatened players with reduced playing time if they quarantine and claim CSU is altering contact tracing reports to keep players practicing,” Miles Blumhardt of The Coloradoan reported Tuesday. “And they say those actions by the athletic administration is putting their health at risk in return for monetary gain the school would receive if fall sports are played.”
Needless to say, these are some damning allegations right here. Colorado State Athletic Director Joe Parker noted earlier on Tuesday that the plan is still for the 2020 college football season to start next month. The school conducted 420 COVID-19 tests recently with 16 positives, 11 of those coming within the college football program.
This has players concerned about their health.
“I believe there is a cover-up going on at CSU,” said a current football player who wished to remain anonymous for fear of retribution. “But they could only cover it up so long and now that we have so many cases across athletics, they can’t cover it up anymore. It’s not about the health and safety of the players but about just trying to make money off the players.”
The unnamed player was two of 10 within the Colorado State football program to contact The Coloradoan about a perceived cover up within the administration.
These are explosive allegations that could lead to sweeping changes within the administration of the Colorado State athletic program. Putting young kids at risk while covering up COVID-19 would represent one of the biggest scandals in recent college sports history.
