The Houston Astros have dealt with a whole plethora of injuries in the less than two weeks since the defending American League champions opened their 2020 season.

Houston placed All-Star closer Roberto Osuna on the injured list following Sunday’s game against the Los Angeles Angels after he had to depart the game with pain in his throwing elbow. Two days later, and it doesn’t look like good news.

Bad news as it relates to the elbow leads many to believe we’re talking about a torn UCL and likely Tommy John Surgery. Though, that would be reckless speculation at this point. Osuna’s injury is the latest in a long line of issues Houston has dealt with since opening the season.

Houston Astros injury issues

It was late last month that reports suggested reigning AL Cy Young winner Justin Verlander would miss the remainder of the season with an elbow injury. While Verlander has since denied said report, it stands to reason that he’s going to be out for the long term.

Houston is also dealing with injuries to fellow pitchers Joe Biagini and Chris Devenski. Remember, reliever Joe Smith opted out of the season due to concerns over the COVID-19 pandemic.

An All-Star as a member of the Toronto Blue Jays back in 2017, the embattled Osuna led the American League with 38 saves while posting a 2.63 ERA and 0.88 WHIP for Houston last season.
