The 2020 MLB season started on July 23. Apart from empty stadiums and COVID-19-related fears, most teams didn’t really have much to worry about when playing at home. Except for the Toronto Blue Jays.
With their “home” opener on July 29, the Blue Jays had no formal home stadium. Prior to the start of the season, Toronto’s government officials prohibited the Blue Jays from playing there, due to COVID-19 fears.
Where in the world are the Blue Jays going to play?
Although Toronto will be playing the next few days on the road, the question now becomes where do they play their home games. For Toronto’s first “home” series, they will be playing the games in Washington D.C., borrowing Nationals park as they play the Nationals for the two-game series.

After initially agreeing with the Pittsburgh Pirates to use their ball park as a “home” field, the city of Pittsburgh axed the deal. Now, the Blue Jays are going to be playing their home games in Buffalo, N.Y., for “most” of their home games. But, renovations still need to be made on the field before the Blue Jays are allowed to play.
With all this uncertainty, it’ll be interesting to see how these setbacks affect this young Toronto squad. Considering this season is a sprint, not a marathon, the Blue Jays have no time to waste if they want to make it to the postseason.
