The Los Angeles Dodgers made a big splash this offseason by acquiring Mookie Betts. With the 2020 MLB season just hours away, Los Angeles is reportedly closing in on a massive contract extension with its star outfielder.

After seeing their blockbuster deal for Mookie Betts nearly fall apart early this offseason, the Dodgers then faced the danger of the 2020 season being canceled. Fortunately, baseball is back on Thursday and Los Angeles is prepared to keep Betts for years to come.

As first reported by WEEI’s Lou Merloni, the Dodgers are closing in on a massive contract extension that could keep Betts in Los Angeles for the next decade. While specifics are still being discussed, the All-Star’s contract could land between $350-400 million over the length of the deal.

According to ESPN’s Jeff Passan, both sides are deep into negotiations and Betts could sign the deal in a matter of days. However, with MLB losing out on billions of dollars in revenue this season due to the shortened season and games being played without fans, the structure of the deal could be more complex than usual.

Once the deal becomes official, the Dodgers will have two MVP bats in their lineup for years to come with Betts and Cody Bellinger. Behind one of MLB’s best lineups and a strong rotation, the Dodgers will start the 2020 season atop the MLB power rankings.
