Philadelphia Eagles star wide receiver DeSean Jackson has been in the news for all the wrong reasons after he posted a series of quotes on social media that have largely been seen as Anti-semitic.

There’s been some calling on the Eagles to release Jackson. At least for now, that’s not happening.

Eagles fine DeSean Jackson, decide against releasing star receiver

Philadelphia released a statement on Friday strong condemning Jackson’s posts, but stopped short of moving on from the embattled pass catcher.

“Today we have penalized DeSean for conduct detrimental to the team. He accepted these consequences and apologized. In our many conversations with him, it has also been made clear that this is only the beginning. We have discussed a concrete plan for how we and he can heal moving forward,” the team said in a statement, via its official website. “He understands that in order to remain on the team, he must also commit to supporting his words with actions. We have been encouraged by his desire to educate himself, but we all understand that there is still a lot of work to be done. We will continue to assist DeSean in this process, and we also know that all of us in our organization need to listen and learn more about things that are unfamiliar or uncomfortable to us.”

It’s being noted that said penalty is merely a fine.

DeSean Jackson has apologized multiple times

For his part, the former Pro Bowl receiver has issued multiple apologies. He also met with a 94-year-old Holocaust survivor on Friday. Ignorance is one thing. Attempting to educate yourself after displaying said ignorance is another thing. At the very least, Jackson is taking steps in the right direction.

For some, that won’t be enough. It’s completely understandable given what the Jewish people have dealt with over the centuries. Any quote affiliated with an anti-Semite mentality and Adolf Hitler brings up some horrible memories.
