The New York Knicks are in the midst of a search to find a full-time replacement for David Fizdale, who was fired as the team’s head coach early in the 2019-20 season.

A number of candidates have emerged for the job. Though, one big name is seen as the favorite. He’s now formally interviewed for the job.

This would be exactly the big-name hire new Knicks president Leon Rose is seeking as he attempts to mold the organization heading into the 2020-21 season.

Tom Thibodeau has always been the Knicks’ No. 1 option

Thibodeau, 62, last coached for the Minnesota Timberwolves during the 2018-19 season. He was fired after posting a 19-21 record through 40 games. The veteran coach did lead Minnesota to a rare playoff appearance the season prior.

Though, he’s best known for working wonders with the Chicago Bulls. From 2010-15, Thibodeau led Chicago to a playoff appearance each season. He also won 50-plus games three times.

New York itself is in need of a major rebrand. It has not made the playoffs since all the way back in 2012-13. This would also be a reunion of sorts. Thibodeau was an assistant with the Knicks from 1996-2003.
