This is something we might see a lot of now that the COVID-19 pandemic has continued to impact the 2020 MLB season. With a majority of Miami Marlins players now infected with the virus, the team has suspended its season for at least a week.

That obviously raises questions about the Marlins’ ability to field a competitive team moving forward. If this latest piece of information is any indication, things could start looking even more dire for Miami.

It’s hard to blame any player for making the decision to opt out at this point. COVID-19 has to be taken seriously. It doesn’t just impact the old and those with preexisting conditions. Just ask Atlanta Braves star first baseman Freddie Freeman.

COVID-19 outbreak in MLB

The Milwaukee Brewers game against the St. Louis Cardinals scheduled for Friday has been postponed due to an outbreak within the Cardinals’ organization. A total of 20% of teams have now seen games postponed over the first week of the 2020 MLB season.

Attempting to play a season outside of a bubble during the ongoing pandemic was going to be difficult. Though, no one could have envisioned what we’re seeing right now. In total, three games slated for Friday have now been postponed due to positive test results.

As for Diaz, he’s considered one of the better young Marlins players on their active roster. A second-round pick back in 2014, the 24-year-old infielder started each of the first two games this season.
