Tua Tagovailoa has a passion for giving back and paying it forward in his local community. As such, the rookie quarterback announced the establishment of a scholarship endowment to help kids in Hawaii.
Rookie announces Tagovailoa Family Scholarship Endowment
On Tuesday, Tagovailoa announced “the establishment of a Tagovailoa Family @StLouisHawaii Scholarship Endowment that will provide educational opportunities for Hawai’i kids.”
Saint Louis School in Honolulu, Hawaii, is where Tagovailoa attended classes and played football in high school. It’s the same school that former Heisman Trophy winner Marcus Mariota attended when he was in high school as well.
While he was a student-athlete at Saint Louis School, Tagovailoa developed into a four-star recruit and eventually picked Alabama to play his college ball.
Not the first financial investment from Tua Tagovailoa into the Hawaii community
Tagovailoa was selected No. 5 overall by the Miami Dolphins during the 2020 NFL Draft. Since then, he’s shown a willingness to give back in a big way. In addition to the scholarship fund he announced Tuesday, Tagovailoa recently announced he’s giving a portion of his rookie contract to charitable causes in Hawaii, Alabama, and Miami.
Already one of the most popular players in the NFL before he ever took a snap, Tagovailoa is showing leadership off the field.
Dolphins may be starting Tagovailoa sooner rather than later
Due to the coronavirus pandemic, Tagovailoa hasn’t been able to prove anything on the field yet. He and his Dolphins teammates are expected to finally be allowed back at team facilities next month for training camp. Once that happens, Tagovailoa will have his work cut out to take the starting job from veteran Ryan Fitzpatrick.
That said, there’s plenty of rumors floating around right now that the Dolphins will end up starting the rookie. As long as Tagovailoa is healthy, he’s talented enough to play right away, to be sure.
